The hot air balloons launch at dawn every morning the weather permits. It is as extraordinary as it sounds and the tourist infrastructure is significant.

🤫 Secret Tip

The Göreme Open Air Museum has the frescoed cave churches but closes at 5pm. The hike to the Uçhisar castle at sunrise across the Rose Valley before any tours have started is free, takes 90 minutes, and is more beautiful than anything in the museum. Bring a torch for the cave churches en route.
